What should I check before renting an apartment in a new area?

Hi all,

I’m planning to move to a new locality soon and I don’t want to make a rushed decision. Apart from rent and location, what factors should I seriously consider?

Things like:

Agreement terms?

Hidden charges?

Building quality?

Water & electricity issues?

If anyone has practical advice from experience, I’d really appreciate it.
